Lumix LX5: My New Travel Buddy
Posted in RANDOM on February 21, 2012
One of my Christmas wish was to get a new camera. I even mentioned before in my Angkor Wat post how I wanted to have a DSLR or a better point and shoot camera. However, I always delayed buying a camera. I guess it was a combination of “kakuripotan” and being indecisive, hehe. That’s why it took me this long to buy a new camera! I think my dad noticed how makulit I was in Facebook that he decided to sponsor some of my camera expenses, hehe. Thank you po dad! ^___^

I finally narrowed down my choices to two cameras, Canon S95 and Lumix LX5. Up to the actual date of my purchase, I was still confused! Canon S95 was cheaper and smaller but the review for Lumix LX5 was also good and I just fell in love with how the white Lumix LX5 looks. I think fate intervened because when we arrived at Jeptall’s shop, the only remaining Canon S95 was already reserved. Hindi na talaga ako pinag-isip at Lumix na talaga pinabili sa akin.
Sample Pictures

I just got the camera at that time so I still didn’t know that I can switch to a less wider lens, hehe.

High Dynamic mode. I tweaked the contrast a bit but the picture was really that colorful.
Dynamic Black & White Mode. I sharpened the picture but I still liked how it turned out even without post processing.
Miniature Effect. This was taken Inside Metropolitan Theatre. I will try to blog about our Postal heritage Tour after I get back from Bohol.
What I love about the camera:
- I love how the white camera looks very nice and neat.
- You can switch to wide angle lens for wide shots plus there are also other sizes you can choose from. The lens is also Leica.
- It has settings to adjust aperture, exposure, shutter plus scene modes and color modes.
- You can adjust settings when taking a video.
- You can save the file in RAW format to edit in Lightroom later.
- The picture output is definitely much better than my old Sony Cybershot cam, hehe.
What I don’t love about the camera:
- It is a bit bigger than the usual digicams. I had a hard time finding a camera case for it.
- You will need to remove and put back the lens cap on if you don’t have an auto lens cap.
- Some pictures turned out a bit soft. (But I think it is just me as a beginner. Besides, you can still sharpen it in Photoshop.)
Currently, I am still learning its controls and I try to practice when I can so that I can maximize the camera’s potential. Honestly, I still don’t know how to take a good night shot though, hehe. Overall, I can say that Lumix LX5 is a worthy investment. I am looking forward to more travels and memories with my new travel buddy! ^___^

In fairness, ang ganda ng quality ng pictures. Parang kuha ng isang DSLR. I think magandang series ang Lumix. Also got a Lumix underwater camera and I love it!

Yup, iba nga ang effect ng Lumix pics especially nung kinompare ko sa dati kong cam.
Yung underwater cam ba yung TS3?

i wish i can also buy a dslr or at the very least, a new P&S digital camera. my olympus SP-500 is almost 6 years now and it really needs to be replaced soon
Don’t worry batangala.
Maybe the right camera for you is still in the works.
Your new camera looks neat! I am thinking about getting a new one soon too.

If ever you are looking for an advanced point and shoot, Lumix is a good choice.
I think, as I look at the pictures, it has a good resolution. Someone offered me to buy this camera last time at P6,500. I failed to check it personally.:-).

Hi Vin!
Sorry for the very late post. Yes, I believe it offers hd video.
Congrats on the new cam! Personally, I’ve been eyeing a new cam too but I want an ILC. Gotten used to a DSLR na kasi (plus I love the picture quality) but I want it compact like a point and shoot. =)
Thanks Tin!
Yup, ILC is a good option especially since you are used to handling DSLRs.
hi, Karla!
You chose the best point and shoot camera there is. I have the LX-3 and is very contented with it. Obvious bang bias ako hehe…
Thanks for visiting me all the time! Will backread your posts…

Hi Foodiesoul!
Hehe it’s okay. I love the Lumix line of cameras as well. Even my sister sometimes points out how my pictures are colorful considering that she owns a DSLR.
Thank you also for visiting my blog. Take care! ^__^
Congrats to your new travel buddy!
Mine’s a Canon EOS 1100D because sanay na ako sa DSLR eh, but you had a great choice. LX5 is a powerful compact camera. And oh, LX5 is one of the best cameras for low-light photography. Just adjust your ISO (preferably high), aperture at least f/8 and exposure of at least 1″ to allow the entry of light.
Thanks for the advice Renz!
I’m such a noob when it comes to manual settings so sometimes I just use Auto Happy Mode, hehe. Take care! Would also love to try a Canon DSLR too someday.
