Free Guided Postal Heritage Walking Tour Part 1: Exploring Manila Central Post Office
Posted in MANILA on February 29, 2012
Liwasang Bonifacio is no strange place to me. In fact, this is where I had memories of being a nursing student back then, waiting for an FX or trying to run after a bus bound to Cavite clad in my white uniform, hehe. Sadly, I have only been to the fountain area. I never had the chance to explore what lies beyond it. I never had the chance to go inside the Manila Central Post Office until last February 19.

The Free Guided Postal Heritage Walking Tour was made possible through the efforts of people such as our guide for the day, Mr. Lawrence Chan. He rendered his services all for free just to let people like me discover a different side of Manila.

Before we went inside the Post Office, we introduced ourselves since most of us do not know each other. We only learned of the tour through Facebook or Pinoyexchange. Sir Lawrence also told us how the free walking tour might only be until six months. The reason why the tour might soon come to an end is because of the news that the Post Office would soon be turned into a hotel reminiscent of the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore which was also once a Post Office.
So are you curious of how the Central Post Office looks like? Let me take you through a virtual tour. ^____^
Did you know that the Post Office has their own gas supply? Actually this one is not operational but there is another one further down the block.
These delivery trucks make it possible for our mails to be delivered to different areas.

A peek at some documents

Taking a pic of people taking a pic of the stairs (ang gulo ko, hehe)
On that day, there was a bidding of old stamps and money.

By the way, if you are wondering why this blog post is only part 1 of the tour, it’s because the tour doesn’t end at the Manila Central Post Office! Please watch out for the continuation of this blog post as I will let you take a peek into what is inside the Metropolitan Theatre and the Arroceros Park. Have a nice day everyone!

You’re welcome po.
Wow! That’s great to hear. Sayang po wala po kayo dito because they have stamps up for sale and bidding. Magugustuhan nyo po siguro yun.
Oh no! Can’t believe they want to turn this into a hotel… Sayang wala ako dyan, am very much interested in the guided tour. Thanks for sharing at least kahit sa pics ay nakasama na ako =) It’s great that someone is doing this for free =)

Sayang nga po wala po kayo dito. I will try to share more pics po para kahit papano may virtual tour po.
Yup, nakakatuwa nga po na free ang tour. At least it’s a chance for people to see the hidden gems of the city.
for some reason i always miss the tour dates or im too lazy to register. it’s too bad that they are discontinuing it. how come? sayang naman. i sure hope to join one fo these days!
Yup, sana makajoin ka one of these days.
They are discontinuing the Postal Tour since irereconstruct na ang Post Office if ever matuloy ang paggawa ng hotel around June. But I think tuloy pa din other tours like the FEU Tour and Binondo tour.
sama ako sa april 15 walk naman

Wow! Sasama po kayo sa April 15. Madami pong photo opportunities sa tour.
I’ve been meaning to join this tour for some time now. Tapos it’s til June na lang?! Hay! Procrastinated kasi. =(
I heard nga that they’ll be turning the post office into a hotel. I thought it was just a rumor. At least the building will somewhat be preserved. Keysa naman to be bought and bulldozed lang. =(

Yup, until June na lang daw.
Nakakalungkot nga e but I hope that even if it will be turned into a hotel, mapreserve pa din ang structure kahit papano.
